<Some of Steve’s earliest memories played out on the coastal waters surrounding St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, where he spent his young, impressionable years beaching, sailing and diving. His first exposure to yachting was enjoyed on sunset cruises with his grandfather aboard “The Eleanor”, a classic Danish schooner.
Watching the crew of the Eleanor flawlessly execute the lines and maneuvers of the massive sailing vessel, all whilst serving up strong drinks with wit and energy was a pivotal moment in focusing young Steve’s ambitions, guiding his early life and bringing him back to the Virgin Islands 10 years later as a young man. Steve earned both a BS in Marine Biology and MS in Marine and Environmental Science from the University of the Virgin Islands and it was early on in his tenure at the university that Steve took a job as a deckhand on a local catamaran catering to cruise ship guests, realizing the dream hatched a decade earlier on the Eleanor.
His penchant for learning, self-sufficiency and catamarans specifically, propelled Steve quickly through the ranks, earning him a 100 Ton Master’s License and solidifying his ambitions within the yachting industry. After nearly a decade of running yachts professionally, Steve chose to combine his knowledge and love for yachting with the high-end service he enjoyed providing in his yachting career, founding Caribe Yacht Group with Dare Blankenhorn. The result is a low-pressure, transparent and informative, service-oriented sales approach.
